$1 Billion to Connect Major Metros

On Monday, December 4, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg joined state and city officials to announce $1 billion to connect Raleigh and Richmond with a new passenger rail route.

Currently, Amtrak runs from Raleigh to Selma through Rocky Mount. Travel time to Richmond, Virginia, is about 4 hours. The S-Line will be a more direct route using freight rail tracks and reduce travel time by an hour.
